Meet the team that makes Cohen winters as the best law firm

Jonathan Cohen and Andrew Winters met in Concord back in the summer of 1999 while they were training for the Bar and soon made a connection. Both were new-to-area transplants–Jon from western Massachusetts and Andrew from Washington, D.C. suburbs. Both were preparing for their new positions as staff lawyers at the New Hampshire Public Defender, which was scheduled to start soon after they finished the bar exam. We are also expressing love for working to secure fairness for the poor and the destitute.

Both Jonathan and Andrew have succeeded, bringing their academic knowledge from the law school and combining it with the kind of trial expertise that can only be acquired by experienced attorneys who advise new Public Defender lawyers. They are proud of their time as public defenders, each helping thousands of seriously accused criminal defendants and a criminal justice system that always seemed to be stacked against them.

The minds behind the work

Cohen Winters’s lawyers left the public defender’s high caseloads to go into private practice after several years. Each one worked for other law firms and learned the skills needed for civil litigation. They reconnected in 2009, creating Cohen & Winters. While both are currently familiar with much criminal defense litigation in state and federal courts, a significant part of their career is now also committed to dealing with family law and personal injury problems. Cohen Winters are seasoned trial lawyers, who generally have more trial skills than the lawyers against whom they face.

Jon and Andrew have expanded their practice in other fields since they joined forces and formed a New Hampshire Law firm. It involves campaigning for fair compensation for victims of car accidents and other forms of negligence. They also help people regularly who are unhappy about a divorce or custody fight.

Cohen & Winters has created a New Hampshire lawyer and a crackerjack professional team dedicated to their task of quality legal work for real people. It includes Prosecutor Elroy Sequeira, who gained extensive trial experience before joining the company as a public defender in Minneapolis.

We represent people, not businesses, Andrew says. It’s been a deliberate decision. While we were able to practice Corporate Law, we were not happy with vast hours charging for facial companies. It is all about working as a team, said Jon. We hold to the philosophy that’ all is greater than the sum of the component.’ No one here has an ego. There’s no relation to our clients in this sense, nothing to inspire you to drive yourself the hardest. It is the ideology that separates us.

Cohen Winters emphasis is primarily on promoting good men, often for the first time, to witness bad situations. As defense lawyers, in 1999, Jonathan and Andrew began fraud cases concerning hundreds of victims who were unable to afford a lawyer. Such work in the group creates a connection. Earlier in 2009, they formed alliances and supported their neighborhoods and the entire State with committed services.

Jon and Andrew have together been prosecuting one of New Hampshire’s most infamous murder cases.
